The sisters of the gospel of life

The Sisters of the Gospel of Life try to live out Jesus’ declaration in John 10:10 — “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”

We offer non-judgemental support for mothers and their babies, born and unborn. Enabling pregnant women to choose life is our priority.

We also support women and men who experience emotional and spiritual difficulties after an abortion decision.

We invite anyone, from any ethnic origin, any religion or none, faced with a difficult pregnancy to come to us for loving help and support.

The Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initiative is the apostolate of the Sisters of the Gospel of Life.

On the 9th March 1997, the late Thomas Joseph Cardinal Winning invited any woman facing a difficult pregnancy or suffering after an abortion experience to come to the Catholic Church for help. This launched a major initiative to help women and support families.

Shortly before his death on 17th June 2001, Cardinal Winning was asked what his vision was for the Pro-Life Initiative. He replied ‘I am pleased with the work being carried out and I would like the Initiative to stand against all attacks on life by the “culture of death”, from abortion to capital punishment’. He was keen that our work should help to promote a ‘civilization of love’.

The task we all face is to ensure that the work – so inspirationally
begun by him – continues.

"We are unlikely to win hearts and minds by hurling insults. Far more likely are we to have an effect if we open our hearts, our minds and our pockets to those in genuine need."
